چکیده
Abstract Tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris Palisot de Beauvois (Hemiptera: Miridae), has become a primary pest of cotton in the Midsouthern United States. Insect growth regulators such as novaluron are an important part L. management. While is lethal to nymphs, it does not kill adults, so been used when nymphs stage present. However, yield protection was observed from application adults were predominant To explain this, series studies conducted examine sublethal impacts adults. Novaluron ingestion by reduced hatch rate and sometimes oviposition rate. Ingestion either males or females rates, but reduction greater female exposure. Contact exposure with residues within 1 d about 50%, impact on inconsistent. A field study showed contact mixed-age natural populations, overall net reproductive reduced. Surface eggs did reduce Overall, tarnished bug novaluron, regardless adult age route, egg viability. varied route. This understanding addition should be considered choosing times maximize effects populations.

Reproductive Refractoriness in the Western Tarnished Plant Bug (Hemiptera: Miridae)
Adult Lygus hesperus Knight (Hemiptera: Miridae), major crop pests of the southwesternUnitedStates, canmate repeatedlyduring their lives, potentiallyenhancing the lifetimeÞtness ofboth sexes. However, theperiodicityofmating and its regulation in this species is poorlyunderstood. In this study the postmating refractory period for both sexes is described. Males were found to have a median delay of...
متن کاملDevelopment of a plant-based threshold for tarnished plant bug (Hemiptera: Miridae) in cotton.
The tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), is an important pest of cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., in the mid-southern United States. It is exclusively controlled with foliar insecticide applications, and sampling methods and thresholds need to be revisited. The current experiment was designed to establish a plant-based threshold during the flowering period of cotton develo...

A complex of hemipterans, especially the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) (Hemiptera: Miridae), has become a major target of insecticides in flowering cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., in the mid-southern United States. Sampling protocols for this complex during this period of cotton development are poorly established, resulting in uncertainty about when infestations war...
متن کاملCharacterization of microsatellite loci in the western tarnished plant bug, Lygus hesperus Knight (Hemiptera: Miridae)
A microsatellite-enriched partial genomic DNA library of Lygus hesperus was generated and screened by sequencing. Ten polymorphic microsatellite marker loci were characterized by genotyping 92 insect samples. The observed number of alleles ranged from three to seven with an average of 4.5 (SE ± 0.45), while the effective number of alleles ranged from 1.21 to 3.02 with an average of 2.14 (SE ± 0...
متن کاملExpressed sequenced tags from Lygus lineolaris (Hemiptera: Miridae), the tarnished plant bug.
Expressed sequenced tags (ESTs) were prepared to establish a baseline for molecular genetic studies of the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois). The largest class of identifiable ESTs (15.2%) was from genes involved in cellular metabolic functions, including physiological processes. Twenty-seven ESTs (9.8%) were from genes associated with transcription and translation, in...
